


| Government & Economics is a required course for senior to complete their graduation requirements. The course focuses on the structure and development of political systems across history. Special attention will be paid to the foundation and construction of the American constitutional system. The economics section focuses on the theory of economics, the development of economic systems in conjunction with the development of political systems, and the application of this theory by government. All of the curricular subjects are based on the California Standards for Government and Economics, Grade 12. The course also will teach and assess the skills of reading and writing. Reading skills is presented through the process of Reading Apprenticeship; a process that entails the application of seven specific steps required when "reading to learn." Writing will be a focal point of the assessments throughout the term including four in class essays and one constructed project. These essays will take the form of evaluative and persuasive modes of writing.
