In October of that same year he was hired to replace a departing teacher for the remainder of the 1999-2000 school year. Upon completing the temporary assignment he reapplied for the full time position and was hired in July 2000. Since that time Mr. Mathias has developed an expertise in the Government & Economics curriculum. He has also taught World Studies, United States History, Advanced Placement European History, and The American History of the Automobile. Mr. Mathias is currently the department chair for the Social Science Department. He also served as the Senior Project Coordinator from 2002 to 2007, and 2009 to 2010. Mr. Mathias has received the following awards for his work at Del Oro: 2003-2004 Who's Who Among America's Teachers 2004-2005 Teachers Who Make a Difference 2004-2005 Rotary Club of Rocklin/Loomis Basin Teacher of the Year 2008-2009 Daughters of the American Revolution Gold Country Teacher of the Year State of California Teacher of the Year National Teacher of the Year nominee |
